What to do after 12th is a search topic that always pops up as soon as I write “what to do…..” I wish I read a blog post which gave me a guide on how to select the kind of course which was suitable for me. Today I am going to guide you through the exact help that I needed when I was deciding how I should opt for a course after I graduate from class 12. I wish someone told me this before..

A little about me, I just graduated with a degree in Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) and let me tell you I had no interest in this course. I would force myself every beginning of the semester to be enthusiastic and interested in everything I was going to learn but that would deescalate rapidly as the semester would continue. It was because I was never really invested in the course. Not that I have failed my course, I was above average, I worked hard in the end, crammed my practical course, and passed with good grades. It is not important you would fail, but you would never learn anything plus you would feel miserable all your time in college. Always wondering, “what could I have done differently?”

THIS IS WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY BEFORE COMING TO COLLEGE!
- (Very important) sit with yourself and think: a lot of us are under this pressure that we have to make choices that will affect our lives further on, so it’s like, “oh I wanna be a pilot! I will go for nda/cds I will learn aeronautics!” it is great to know before hand to know what you wanna be and how you are going to get there. But if you are like me, who didn’t already know what they want to be in the future, no worries. I hope someone told me that it is okay if you don’t have it figured out and planned out your entire life. You figure out while you live this life it is totally okay to not have a fool proof plan right before you, life doesn’t work out the way you plan it. Sit with yourself and take a notebook and write down everything you like and research the courses that relate to your interest. For example, “if you want to be a youtuber, you can choose online courses like photography, videography and you can go for courses like BJMC, Major in Film and photography, a course that will enhance your skills as a videographer so that you provide quality content to your viewers.” Think about things that excite you, it can be anything, if it is not go for easier courses that will give you more time to think about what else you wanna do. For example, “a lot of people opt for BA, its easy and you can work on your side hustle and then opt for masters in the subject you want to go for next.”
- don’t be credulous: meaning that don’t be easily swayed by what someone says. “it’s your life not theirs” Someone else having an input in your life when they clearly don’t know you or understand you. It is good to take advice and get to learn from experiences of people who have been there before us, but even their experiences can’t define what we can do. If you are going to let someone decide for you instead of letting yourself take the wheel you are certainly going to regret it, because I know I did. I let my parents and my friends decide for me, because I thought I had no idea what I am going to do. When all I had to do was a little research. I am really interested in languages, I loved the English subject a great deal, but my parents told me it had no scope, you’ll be unemployed when I could have acquired the skills to write books, fictional novels, etc. unfortunately none of that sort occurred. I did BCA and didn’t anything I wanted to.
- There is no scope: first of all there is nothing like “there is no scope” there ae hundreds of jobs in every field we just have to widen our perspective and look beyond the ordinary and normal. if you really want a job in a field you love to work you will land a job, because you love learning and you have the skills. Don’t be intimidated of people who say there are no opportunities, those people have not even been there. How would they know? If you really have passion for it you are going to find opportunities respectively.
- Research : again a very important point. If I could tell my past self something it would be, “hun, do your research!!!!!!” and the amount of exclamation marks should be obvious about how much I want you to understand the power of internet. There are numerous blogs, reports and articles that will provide you with the information you need. Search for the courses that match nearly with your interest, search for the job opportunities the course will provide, search for jobs that match your interest, search for interests you can develop if you don’t have any. Just sit down with your device and search and search. This is the first step you take towards your dream.
- Find a way to make your parents understand: coming from a middle class Indian family, we don’t have just one problem we also have our parents with their expectations which have been growing even before we were even born and have ripen until its our turn to depart to college. We live in a country where what the society thinks is way more respected than our own choices and decisions. Our parents seem to be protective over us hence not letting us make mistakes. They don’t want to see us getting hurt, so they try their level best to avoid us falling and tripping over. Life is about experiences I say, if we won’t go down that road we will never know the possibilities it possess. We all know our parents; you understand them as well as know how to trick them. I am not asking you to trick them, all I ask is to make your parents understand in a way that would be comprehensible for them. Don’t let your parents be your enemy, they are ally in disguise.
- Think think think: I’ll say it once again. THINK. THINK HARD. Think about what you can do with the degree you will obtain in the future. In this era, you can literally know about anything anywhere. So make use of it. Use the technology we are blessed with in a way that it benefits you. A lot of us just go in a whim, a lot of us don’t have the courage to defy our parents, most of us are too depressed to make any decision, most of us are anxious about what might happen. It will all come down to you, making about a course should not be that hard. If you sit and think beforehand things will be less rough for you when the clock strikes. So think. Do your research.

Good luck for your 12th exams!
May you choose a course that makes you want to study! A course you are interested in!
Believe us it will make your college life better!
Stay Safe!
Take care!
