How to start Reading in Quarantine 📚💞

Hey there!

So everyone around the globe is at home quarantining these days! And doing some activity to pass time or indulging in their hobbies while some are cultivating new hobbies!

This is the perfect time for you to learn to read!! ( Even though in my opinion… anytime is a good time for reading 😅)

OK so if you have clicked on this post it means that you wish to be benefited from the advantages of reading!(which are too many to be counted on one hand btw 😉)

And that’s what I’m here for… To help you learn the skill known as Reading!

While assuming that ofcourse you know how to read since you are able to reach till here but are scared or uninterested by the sight of books… Or the sight of them dampens your mood!

First Step : Gain/Develop an Interest

Yeah… I know! You might be thinking “that’s what I lack!!!!!”

I understand! So follow these simple steps to learn to develop that interest.

First and foremost find books of the genre you like…now don’t say you don’t have a genre because you don’t like reading books. Blah! Blah! Because you do!

More often than not the genre of movies we like is the same as the genre of books we like!
So choose such a genre (or explore all genres) and find a book that interests you!

A book that makes you want to know it’s story when you read the synopsis / blurb of the story.

I believe that suspense ,thriller, crime are the best genres to develop your interest/curiosity!Because these genre keeps you hooked the most!!

So let’s say you pick up a book that is able to pique your interest! That is able to make an image in your head that you would want to be completed

Second step: Your Easy Read

Open it and read the first page/chapter (your choice) and see if it’s vocabulary is easy for you to comprehend or not.

Because many a times new beginners don’t like reading and get bored easily because they can’t comprehend it and looking up the word in a dictionary every now and then is a hassle!

So it’s important for you to find a book that you are interested in and you can read easily ( That is your easy read)

Once that’s done

Sit back (Get Comfortable!)

Open it

Start reading!

Read the first chapter🤩

I know for a fact that if you have picked up a book which neither interests you nor could keep you wanting to continue reading… after the first few chapters… Then it’s not THE book!!

Because a good book keeps you wanting to know more….. Read more!!! ( Coming back for more!)

So if you think you are someone who can’t read more than a page of a book even though you are perfectly healthy! (Which you are since you have been able to read this post so far)

Believe me that’s all in your head!!

Because if you have ever been able to cram a day before exam then that one chapter of a book that you have interest in reading will be a piece of cake!!! Trust me!!

And soon you will be flipping those pages wanting to know more of the story all the while vividly imagining it!

That leads us to our next step: Imagine!

Many people find books boring because they are just reading it cursorily…they are skimming through.

When you read….you have to imagine!! That way you can live through it..with it!!

It’s like your own movie in your own head (your very own movie theatre😅😂) The quality of this movie depends on how vividly you can imagine!

But you’ll learn to imagine more vividly with every book you read!

Imagination is what makes a book … A Fun read!!

Last step: Feel It!

Weird?!..Nah!

A Good Book will always be able to stir your emotions!

But if the book isn’t able to invoke a rollercoaster of emotions in you while you read all the while imagining it!….Then it’s either a waste or you didn’t do it right!

(until and unless of course if you are a patient diagnoised with Alexithymia or a similar illness… Then I wish you a speedy recovery..and keep trying!)

Those are all the steps you need to follow for you to become a booklover!!

But keep in mind…if you don’t wish or want to do it! All these steps are futile!! Step 1 is the most important for readers!

Note:- These steps are not necessarily for Non fiction/self help books! You can try these but they might not work…you are free to try though!

Also if you want me to write another post to help you to read non-fiction/ self help books just let me know in the comments section and I’ll be ready with that post next!

Before that I want to say….the easiest and fun books to start reading would be Children’s Books (That’s my personal opinion ’cause they are silly but fun😅😆)

Below is the list of books that I have read and recommend for you to try

Easy reads

Suspense/Thriller/Mystery:

One of us is lying by Karen M. McManus

This book will keep you guessing till the end is nigh!
I am an avid reader and have read many books like these But still I didn’t see it coming!!

Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series

The famous Five series….Every book in this series could be read as a standalone…so pick any book from the 21 books in this name….and I give you my assurance that you would love it! It’s a very light read…. And it’s always Fun!

Enid Blyton’s Adventure series

Ever wished for an adventure? Well go on an adventure with these 4 and it’ll be a good one!

Enid Blyton’s Secret Seven series

Ooh!!! Secret Seven!!! This book made me actually want to have a secret meeting with my friends where only those with the password could enter 🤩😍 (Sorry for the spolier 😅). Again any book in this serie could be read as a standalone!

(All Enid Blyton’s books are fairly easy to read)

Enid Blyton is the author whose books helped ease me into the world of books without pictures on every page!
All books of hers are fun to read and an easy read! And they do take you on a rollercoaster ride! Also best part about her books is that most of them can be read as a standalone even if they r a part of a series!

Carolyn Keene’s Nancy Drew Series

The Nancy Drew is a series I loved while I was in middle school…and my love for it is still there! I mean who doesn’t dreams to be a girl sleuth like Nancy when they r a teenager!
And I still wish that someday magically I will become a girl sleuth like Nancy! How thrilling that would be 🤩

Franklin W Dixon’s Hardy Boys series

2 boys on different adventures or do we say missions! Tag along!! Because it’s going to get thrilling!

P.S. all the books in the above genre can also be considered of the Young Adult genre.

Historical Fiction:

Robert Thier’s Storm and silence Saga

(It might not be exactly an easy read but it ain’t a tough one either…But it surely is a very Fun read!!…. It’s also of the genre Rom-Com)

A worthy read!! It will have you giggling and sometimes you would actually laugh out loud!!! But there’s one thing it would never be….. boring! It won’t bore you no matter what!!

Fantasy:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

🤩❤️

(If you loved the movie you’ll love the book even more…give it a try !)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

🤩❤️🚗

Mythological:

Amish’s Shiv Trilogy

This is the best recreation of Indian Mythology without risking the essence of The Indian Mythology!
Must Read!!! 😍 I remember crying! But this book will have you rethinking everything!!!

Tougher reads (Only Because the need to flip open a dictionary is prevalent 😅… especially for beginners)

Dan Brown’s Deception Point and other series

Ooh!!! These will have your mind spinning while you have goosebumps (whether they r from excitement or fear or Paranoia…Well you would know once you read it!)

Paulo Coelho’s Alchemist and others

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter Series

I still await my letter from Hogwarts!!! Give it a try! The movie was only 2+hrs long….this is longer!! More detailed!!! And Lovelier! Moreover here you can have your own cast for those characters after all your mind is both the movie maker and movie theatre 😉

Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson Series

I loved it!!! It gave me an insight on Greek Mythology…and I fell in love!!
You would too! I have come to know that there’s a movie on this…but beleive me the book is better!!….. Just read it and judge for yourself!

There is another serie as well including Percy Jackson which you’ll know of by the end of the last book of this serie. And that serie has not only Greek Mythology but Roman as well.

Also there are also a few great apps for you to read books in ebook format or to read unpublished books or translated books in…so no need to spend money on a book you might not like in the end!

Also you can find PDFs of books too …..on Google for download

So that’s all

Happy Reading!!! Oh no, it will be more than just happy!….

Have a happy Rollercoaster Reading!😉
